The old town of Gmünd is located in Austria, in the Carinthian Lieser Valley, Within the fortified town, much has been well preserved since the Middle Ages.

Gmünd was founded by the Salzburg Archbishops in the 11th to 12th centuries and then became an archbishop's market and town.

Above the town you can see the so-called Salzburg Castle, which was first mentioned in 1292, financed by income from the settlement laws. In 1690, a severe earthquake partially destroyed the walls and in 1886 it burned down and became a ruin. But the castle has been lovingly restored and serves as a landmark of the artists' town and also as a venue for various cultural activities. In 1339 the completion of the town parish church was completed with the consecration. After fires and turmoil, re-Catholicisation and increasing baroque influence followed.

The city's former wealth can still be seen today. Its location on the important trade route between the north and the south and the paid-for right of establishment were profitable.

Ferdinand Porsche moved his company's production site to Gmünd shortly before the end of the Second World War. The first vehicles bearing the Porsche name were built here between 1944 and 1950. A fitting museum was built in memory of this time.

Gmünd is history, economy, culture and technology in the midst of beautiful nature.
