Ibiza is a white Balearic island located within the Mediterranean that has been invaded by the Phoenicians, Byzantines, Romans and Moors and today by tourists from all over the world.

From the harbour there is a great view with a fortress and cathedral regally overlooking the picturesque Old Town. Visitors enter the upper town via a drawbridge, through the Portal De Ses Taules City Gate and past Roman and Greek statues.

The historic centre of Eivissa offers a journey back through time to earlier centuries while fertile flowering bushes and citrus fruits brighten up the old residential buildings.

The city wall and powder tower overlook the harbour, which seems peaceful today but was once the site of attacks by the Moors. In the sixteenth century the city’s fortifications were extended and today are one of the most well preserved, having survived all hostilities.

The Torre Del Pirata is a reminder of the pirates who once plagued the area. From here both sea and coast could be easily observed, as the buccaneers of the seas attempted to land and hide within the island’s small bays and peninsulas.

Sant Miquel De Balanzat is about five kilometres to the north-east with buildings surrounded by flowers, orange and lemon trees.

In the middle of the east coast is Santa Eularia Des Riu, the ‘white village’. The only ethnological museum on the island is located in a restored finca and features historical exhibits of daily life.

The island has always been well protected by its towns and fortified churches and also its beaches and rocky coastlines. Ibiza is pure island happiness, an anchorage of longing!
