Estonia is an exotic country located on the Baltic with a long history, as indicated by its many fortresses, churches, treasures and castles as well as an abundance of beautiful scenery.

Tallinn is the capital of Estland, or Estonia, which is located on the Gulf Of Finland opposite Helsinki. Tsar Alexander The Third had the Russian Orthodox Alexander Newski Cathedral built as a symbol of Russian sovereignty in around 1900. It was a time when the Russian Empire began to integrate the Baltic Sea provinces into the Russian Empire. Also, still in the upper town on the Domberg and opposite the Cathedral, is the Parliament building.

The Estonian Open Air Museum is located in a park landscape of the Rocca Al Mare suburb, and exhibits more than a hundred traditional buildings from all over the country, including a school and the Kutsari Estate that comprises interiors with authentic furnishings.

Narva is located in the east on the border with Russia on the western bank of the river of the same name and opposite the Russian Iwangorod Fortress. Both fortresses are imposing outposts of powerful empires and a border between East and West.

Directly south of Tallinn in a bay sheltered from the wind is Parnu, the summer capital of Estonia. More than two kilometres long and over a hundred metres wide, it has a white sandy beach and pleasant seaside climate. Modern beach hotels and spa facilities are located close to the beach and are open for business both pre-and post-season.

In the centre of the southern region is the university town of Tartut, the oldest town in Estonia. The "White Hall" of the university, founded in 1632 by the Swedish king Gustav Adolf, is well worth a visit. It possesses ionic wooden columns and a continuous gallery.

The Middle Ages, culture and nature have most certainly been well preserved in this fascinating country situated in the far north.
