From the capital, Palma de Mallorca, we will travel on a scenic narrow-gauge railway over the mountains of Serra de Tramuntana to the northern Mediterranean coast. A ride on this nostalgic train on the Spanish island of Mallorca is a great adventure for both young and old.

Palma de Mallorca is the capital of the island of the same name in the Mediterranean Sea. A lively modern city with a long and exciting history.

Before the train ride, the city is worth a visit. Starting at the La Seu cathedral in the Old Town, one of the most beautiful sacred buildings in the world. Our tour of the Old Town also visits the Palau de L’Almudaina, an elegant royal palace, the Santa Eulalia church, the Plaça de Weyler, the Mercat de L’Olivar, the largest and most famous market hall in the city, the harbour and the mighty Castell de Bellver, the "Castle of the Beautiful View", overlooking both harbour and city.

Now, the nostalgic train ride begins. Through the mountains and Mallorcan orchards to Bunyola, a quaint mountain village known for its history of wine growing. We journey on higher through olive plantations and twelve tunnels to the Mirador des Pujul d’en Banya, the first vantage point of the Sóller Valley, the “golden valley”.

Then, we continue to Sóller, the capital of Tramuntana, which offers markets with fresh fruit in abundance and a ride on the “Orange Express” tramway, which dates back to 1913, to the Port de Sóller. At the port, which has long since ceased to be the sleepy fishing village of days gone by, we learn of Sóller’s exciting history as a trading point and even of an attack by pirates in the 16th century.

Exploring the island of Mallorca by train and tramway over mountains and valleys is such fun. Today the nostalgic railway continues to transport passengers from Palma de Mallorca to the Port de Sóller daily. A ride on this nostalgic railway is a special experience.
