Java, a land of kingdoms and volcanoes, Southeast Asia's tropical paradise and the largest island state on Earth. Sleepy villages, vibrant metropolises and ancient temples. A magical mix of world cultural heritage and natural wonders in the most densely populated region in the world.
We begin our tour in Jakarta. Magnificent cultural and sacred buildings abound in the exotic and mysterious capital of Indonesia and we visit the fishing port of Pasar Ikan in Sunds Kelapa, the oldest port in the city.
Bogor is home to beautiful botanical gardens, located at the foothills of the Salak, Gede and Pangrango volcanoes, as well as the Batutulis, Sanskrit-inscribed stones.
Next up, Bandung, the third largest metropolis in Indonesia and the cultural centre of Sunda, known for its spectacular Art Deco colonial architecture. Outside the city, visitors to the tea factory Ciater enjoy freshly-produced tea in this romantic setting, between tea-covered hillsides and the nearby volcanoes.
Our route continues by horse drawn cart through the traditional countyside villages of Kampung Pulo and down 439 stairs into a hidden valley to Kampung Naga.
We adventure through the Green Canyon, an overgrown rocky gorge, guarded by wild animals and drift through the Anakan Lagoon, past small fishing villages and mangroves to the port and industrial city of Cilacep.
At 2,100 metres at the Dieng Plateau, we marvel at the sunrise and the volcanic dream world below and finally, lose ourselves in the “picture book” of 1,460 relief sculptures in the depths of Borobudur, the biggest Buddhist monument in the world and an important pilgrimage destination.
Java, the melting pot of the nation, uniting tradition and modernity and a myriad of influences.
