The romantic nature park Eisenwurzen lies in the Austrian State of Styria. Our tour begins with a hike, starting at Gams and leading through the Nothklamm Gorge, along the Gamsbach Creek. An adventurous hike complete with wooden bridges, narrow walkways and wild waters leads up to a marvellous view, the chalky peaks of Gammstein.

The next stop on our tour is Palfau’s natural attraction, the Wasserlochklamm, a hole in the mountain, from which water surges out. To reach it, we must climb higher into the gorge, across more wooden bridges and up spiralling wooden staircases. We pass three waterfalls, each unique and higher than the last, until finally we reach a viewing platform. This last climb is worth the effort as the view of the water hole and the Salza valley below is magnificent.

Wildalpen is a protected drinking water area, in the middle of which sits the Brunnsee Lake. The water casts dreamy reflections but is not for swimming in as this drinking water is destined for Vienna. At the end of the valley we reach two areas of untouched natural beauty, Brunnmäuern with its abundance of rare flora and the Spitzenbachklamm, also known as the “Valley of the Butterflies” as up to 450 species of butterfly live here at certain times of the year.

We continue through the narrow valley following the small, wild brook on romantic yet adventurous way. The higher we go, the steeper the rock faces becomes, and the narrower the young brook gets. At the top of the gorge, the view opens onto the mountain slopes and mountain peaks of the Eisenwurzen. The landscape here is truly exceptional, with magical places full of adventure and enchanting beauty
