Bodmin is considered the historic heart of Cornwall. Its name comes originally from the Old Cornish, and means "dwelling of monks". Saint Petroc founded a monastery as early as the 6th century and in 1472 this stylish church was built, which for a long time was Cornwall's largest town church.

But Bodmin was also known for the prison and crowds of onlookers came from everywhere to witness the public executions.

Today, a museum train still starts from Bodmin Station. The excursions start with wagons pulled by an old museum steam locomotive about ten kilometres through largely idyllic nature to Boscarne Junction and then back again.

North of Bodmin, the Bodmin Moor spreads out. Over 20 hectares of wild forest and wetland. Lonely, mystical and extraordinary. The hilly country was already densely populated during the Bronze Age, today it is deserted, only animals make a meagre living in this landscape now.

Also surprising is a pile of huge, roundish stones lying on top of each other, formed by nature, the Cheese-Wring.

Other rock formations make the almost unreal charm of this impressive landscape surrounding Bodmin unforgettable.
