This time we want to hike in the Semmering region of Lower Austria, a local recreation area not too far from Vienna, the capital of Austria. A beautiful forest landscape leading through the so-called Adlitz-Ditches, which border the Vienna basin towards the Semmering.

We continue on a wide forest road through woodland until the first mountain meadows appear along with a fishpond fed by a spring. Talhof is reached, which once belonged to the Prince of Liechtenstein.

The forest path now leads to the so-called "Luckerten Wall", a steep rock face that suddenly and surprisingly appears between the trees. Soon the beautiful view of the surrounding mountains Rax and Schneeberg opens up.

First we approach the entrance to the "Gais-Kirchlein", a grotto church, which according to oral tradition was discovered by a shepherd who got lost with his flock of sheep. With only a short way to go, the so-called "Falkenstein-Wall" is reached next. A massive wooden staircase leads up to the entrance of the "Cave of Falkenstein ". The cave was opened in 1842, and the visit was possible without any special equipment or difficulties.

But the romance of this landscape has remained, and no hiker will forget this excursion to the Adlitz-Ditches and the "Luckerten Wall" around the Semmering.
