The mighty sandstone sacred building received this name after the city fire, because the walls became fire-blackened ruins. It is the largest Protestant cathedral in South-Eastern Europe.

<p>Today Braşov is a Transylvanian border town and one of the most important cultural and industrial centres in Romania.

<p>Braşov has survived a lot: Attacks of the Ottomans, the plague, the big city fire, revolts and regimes.
