The landscape in the county of Cornwall in the south-west of England is known to be unique.
This journey begins in Plymouth, a famous port city that was an important "gateway to the world", a city of sailors and captains, of explorers and pirates. The ferry crosses to the stately country estate of Mount Edgcumbe House. The futuristic Eden Project was created in 2001 in the middle of a gentle hilly landscape. A "Garden of Eden" under huge glass domes.
At the entrance to the large bay of Falmouth are built two opposite forts, St. Mawes Castle and Pendennis Castle. Some subtropical gardens extend into the gorges of the Helford River. Glendurgan Garden is one of them.
St. Michael´s Mount – the monastery mountain in the sea. Land's End is probably the most famous point of Cornwall.
Of the once important mining industry, there are only remnants, like the Geevor Tin Mine, which was closed down in 1991.
The famous writer Rosamunde Pilcher was born in St. Ives, something recognisable from references in her romantic novels, but also became London's bastion for British art.
Bodmin is considered the historic heart of Cornwall and was even the seat of the royal court in the 19th century.
Restormel Castle, the ancestral castle of famous Cornish rulers, is located in the valley of the Fowey River.
