Between the European Alps and the Po Plain the 52 km long Lake Garda is located, the largest lake in Italy. Since Roman times, Desenzano Del Garda has been an important trading centre at the southern end of the lake, and is still the largest city.
Along the west bank, you enter the historic old town of Salò through the clock tower-town gate. Gardone Riviera is called the small Nice of Lake Garda. Maderno, the commercial centre of the Middle Ages is soon reached. The village, now united with Toscolano, in the shelter of the steeply rising mountains, has grown incessantly.
Opposite on the eastern shore is the medieval Scalig castle of Torri Del Benaco, built on the remains of a Roman fortification in 1383.
In Gargnano, back on the west bank the alpine landscape of northern Lake Garda ends. The journey continues through many tunnels or directly on the lake to Limone Sul Garda. And here in Malcesine, at the eastern shore again, also a castle above the village greets you proudly and powerfully. Riva Del Garda. This is where the lake ends in the north.
Close to Lake Garda lies Gardaland, an amusement hotspot with almost 3 million visitors annually.
Peschiera Del Garda is the southernmost point of Lake Garda and has always been an important port and transport junction. The journey around Lake Garda ends on the Sirmione peninsula. Over the bridge to the Scalig fortress, the numerous visitors from the mainland enter a fascinating place of history.
Cultural diversity and southern flair mixed with alpine ambience through which the "Mythos Lake Garda" was born.
