The Glacier Express, the "world's slowest express train" connects the Swiss mountain villages St. Moritz and Zermatt, the Piz Bernina with the Matterhorn. This spectacular railway line crosses 291 bridge, magnificent viaducts and passes through 91 tunnels and gorges.

St. Moritz, the world-famous health resort with cosmopolitan flair and chic, is the starting point and the first part is to Chur, the oldest city in Switzerland.

From Chur, the railway line leads to the west, always along the Rhine River and the Rhine Canyon. The rocks in the Swiss Grand Canyon soar four hundred metres high.

From Disentis / Mustér, the "Cradle of Graubünden" we take the Glacier Express in the direction of Zermatt into the mountain world. The pass Oberalp is at 2.033 meters the highest point of this railway line. Deep in the Urseren Valley is Andermatt. The old starting point to the passes of Saint Gotthard, Oberalp and Furka. In Realp we are now boarding the Furka-Mountain Railway. Then the station Oberwald is reached, where the Furka base tunnel of the modern railway line ends.

Fiesch in Wallis is close to nature, but also the starting point of the Aletsch Arena. A modern cable car leads to the first stage, the Fiescher-Alp, at 2,200 meters. After a short stopover, the ascent continues to the Eggishorn mountain station, which ultimately lies at an altitude of 2.893 metres. From the Jungfraujoch the longest glacier of the European Alps bends in a wide arc towards the Great Aletsch Glacier.

The train journey continues deep down through the narrow valley to Brig. Leaving Brig the track runs along the mountain river Vispa. The most famous holiday resort in Switzerland is located at the foot of a famous mountain: Zermatt and the Matterhorn. Here the Glacier Express ends.
