The town of Galle with the historic Fort is located in the south of the island of Sri Lanka. The Portuguese landed here at the beginning of the 16th century, they built at first a modest fort to protect the harbour. The Dutch who followed destroyed this and built the one that still stands today.

For over 350 years, the fortified Fort Galle has withstood the power of the sea.
