At first glance, the landscape here seems quite monotonous and you often even have a wide choice of tracks or the masts of an electric line point you in the right direction. The north of Mongolia receives more precipitation than the south, where the Gobi Desert is expanding more and more. The various ice ages have formed many lakes in northern Mongolia and some have no outlet. Although the water of this lake has a considerable content of soda and mineral salts, it is the only source for the animals of this region to satisfy their thirst.
