Prague is a capital of ancient power and one of the oldest, largest and most beautiful cities in the world, where the past is still very much alive.

Richly decorated buildings of numerous architectural eras line the route from Powder Tower to the centre of Old Town, a unique mixture of Gothic and Baroque buildings. So-called house-marks originally served as house numbers and the most important painters and sculptors of the time designed the buildings’ facades.

The large main square contains churches, elegant town houses and includes the Jan Hus Memorial that commemorates the priest whose belief placed the bible above the church.

The city’s colourful and unique historic facades attract tourists from all over the world. And every hour on the hour there is an historic spectacle as the figures of the astrological clock on the Town Hall tower begin to move.

Josefov is the city’s old Jewish district and the Old New Synagogue is the oldest preserved Gothic temple in Europe. The rebuilt Ceremony Hall behind the cemetery is also popular with visitors and is where the exhibits are a reminder of the old Jewish district that was built in the thirteenth century.

Prague is thought of as a jewel on the Vltava, the Golden City. A prize indeed!
