Situated in the small Finnish town of Kerimäki is the Kerimaen Kirkko. Close to the fascinating lake district of the Savonlinna region the inhabitants of Kerimäki wanted to have a church that was a little different. Forty five metres long and forty two metres wide, Kerimäki Church is the largest timber built Christian church in the world.
The building of the wooden church was the achievement of the entire church community as each member of the local neighbourhood took part in its construction.
The wooden pews can seat a congregation of more than three thousand. In fact it has been known to accommodate up to five thousand!
Along with the bell tower, the Kerimäen Kirkki creates a harmonious unity in a wonderful setting of trees and is justifiably Kerimäki.’s most spoken about and fascinating landmark.
