Located in the South Western region of the United States, Lake Mead is surrounded by the Mojave, Great Basin and Sonora deserts. It contains 35 billion cubic metres of water and was created as a result of a massive construction that was built on the Colorado River: the Hoover Dam.
At a length of 177 kilometres, the idyllic Lake Mead is an essential water supply for the hot desert regions of both Nevada and Arizona.
The Hoover Dam, which rises majestically above the Black Canyon, extends for more than 380 metres and generates the electricity that supplies the glittering world of Las Vegas’s Casinos in addition to various parts of Southern California. Once seen, it is understandable why this gigantic, awe-inspiring dam has been declared an Historic National Monument.
