The warm days at the beginning of autumn were once the most important time of the year for hunting because it was then that the region’s animals grazed prior to the onset of winter.  According to legend the strong dark red colour of the leaves symbolized the blood of slaughtered bears.  The ‘autumn summer’ was thus closely associated with the Native Indian hunters of old.
