The Krimmler Waterfalls in Austria’s Hohe Tauern National Park are, for many reasons, a remarkable work of Mother Nature. This spectacular natural wonder is the creation of the great masses of water that flow from the Krimmler Ache. Its source is situated at the southern end of the wild and romantic Achen Valley at an altitude of two thousand three hundred metres above sea level.
The picturesque beauty of the Krimmler Waterfalls first became popular in the nineteenth century and it was then that the first tourists came to the area. Even today an increasing number of people come to marvel at the legendary waterfalls. Four hundred metres above sea level they are one of the highest waterfalls in Europe.
Each at a different height, the three waterfalls are at their most impressive in the summer when the water level is at its highest and therefore its most spectacular and when the sunlight breaks in the mist above the waterfalls the most amazing rainbows adorn the valley below.
The wild and idyllic Krimmler Waterfalls are proof indeed of both the incredible power and dramatic beauty of nature.
