In the north of Tanzania on the edge of the Great Rift Valley is a large area that is mainly covered with water, Lake Manyara, a shallow, alkaline lake.
The Manyara National Park was inaugurated in 1960 and today it measures around three hundred and thirty square kilometres.
In addition to many varieties of antelope there are also countless herds of gnu that roam the large fertile plains and for ornithologists the lake is ideal for the observation of birdlife as it contains around four hundred species.
The acacia savannah is home to giraffe while herds of African buffalo prefer the spacious grasslands.
Lake Manyara is far more than just a wonderful lake surrounded by the dramatic beauty of the Great Rift Valley: it is an ideal habitat for several magnificent creatures and is a true miracle of nature!
